How Most Effectively to Choose an Expert Witness

Effectively choosing an expert starts with the question of "When." Based on the development of a sound case strategy the timing of choosing an expert is determined, Then the question of "How" most effectively to select expert may be addressed. This course covers the importance of settling on case theme and strategy early, understanding how the retention of an expert is a projection of power and commitment to the case, the effect of having the right experts on the opposition and how the best selection process involves evaluating the expert's History, ability an an Educator, natural capacity to project Authority and proven performance in Deposition.

Your Presenter: Douglas Field

Douglas L. Field attended the Universities of Madrid (Spain) and California (Berkeley), graduating from the latter in 1970. He then completed law school at King Hall (U. C. Davis) in 1973 and immediately entered the practice of civil litigation in Oakland, California.  

He practiced civil defense litigation for over 29 years in the Bay and Sacramento areas.  Most recently he was the managing attorney of the Sacramento Branch Legal Office for Farmers. There he oversaw fifteen to seventeen attorneys, averaging nearly 1,150 cases throughout each year. He retired from Farmers at the end of 2011. He has tried numerous jury cases to verdict.

During the entirety of his active practice, he has worked closely with expert witnesses in several fields including medicine, architecture, accounting, engineering, biomechanics, and accident reconstruction.

After retiring from Farmers, he has dedicated his energies to the presentation of seminars and workshops for expert witnesses on various topics. 

He is the author of the recently released book The Expert Expert – The Path to Prosperity and Prominence as an Expert Witness.
